Established in 2009, the Jobs First Coalition (JFC) works to make the creation and retention of family-supporting jobs the top priority of policymakers and community leaders in Wisconsin. Economic Development has been and remains one of the key public policy issues in Wisconsin, and the Jobs First Coalition uses internet-based technologies, the media, and the mail to effectively communicate its message and organize supporters of its public policy objectives. As an advocacy organization, JFC regularly monitors legislative and regulatory activities in Wisconsin and takes positions on a variety of public policy matters. As part of these advocacy efforts, JFC provides information to the general public and policymakers on issues and policies that directly impact their lives.
Jobs First Coalition Agenda 2025
Cut Taxes for Everyone
Life is already too expensive. The government shouldn’t make it worse. Our state has a huge budget surplus. The government has more money than it needs. Therefore, we should cut taxes for everyone. The Legislature passed a middle class tax cut – but the Governor vetoed it. The Legislature voted to eliminate taxes on retirement income – but the Governor vetoed it. All of our families are struggling with rising prices for gas and groceries. Our small businesses are struggling with rising costs. It is time our leaders agree to return the surplus to the folks who earned it. Let’s cut taxes for everyone.
Help Workers Thrive
It is frustrating to see so many families struggling to make ends meet while at the same time businesses can’t find enough workers with the skills they need. We need more plumbers and electricians, more nurses and physical therapists, more computer programmers and graphic artists. We need to refocus our education system to help people get the skills that will enable them to get the higher paying jobs they need to support their families. We need to help workers get affordable child care, more flexible work hours and high speed internet access. When we help workers thrive, we also help businesses prosper.
Keep Us Safe
The first responsibility of our government is to keep us safe but too many Wisconsin families are at risk. It is hard for families in some urban neighborhoods to keep their children safe and even small towns are dealing with illegal immigration and the fentanyl crisis. We are all less safe when certain judges and prosecutors adopt a “catch and release policy” for violent criminals. We need to stop defunding the police and give our local law enforcement officials what they need to keep us safe.
